Winona Hollins-Hauge,
MSW, LICSW, is a gubernatorial appointee to the state of Washington
Commission for African American Affairs.
Ms. Hollins-Hauge holds a Master’s Degree from the
University of Washington, where she has served as a practicum instructor
for the School of Social Work. She is a native of Seattle who graduated
from Garfield High School in the class of 1971.
She was formerly a United States Public Health
Service officer, outreach manager for the Fred Hutchinson Center,
program manager and director of Social Work for the Odessa Brown
Children’s Clinic and senior clinical social worker for the Seattle
Cancer Care Alliance. She sits on numerous national, regional, and
local civic boards and committees and has been nominated by her peers
for the National Award in Oncology Leadership in 2004 by the local
chapter of the Association of Oncology Social Workers/Puget Sound
Chapter. She credits her leadership training from growing up in a family
owned business and also training with the Chamber of Commerce’s
Leadership Tomorrow program and the United Way’s Project Lead program.
Ms. Hauge has combined her busy, savvy, and
entrepreneurship skills to become a highly effective community
engagement specialist. She was the founder and past president of the
Association of Women Contractor’s and Suppliers and has represented
Central Washington at the Business Roundtable during that tenure. She
was on the founding committee to start the Women and Minorities Business
Enterprise office for the state of Washington and was featured in the
Daily Journal of Commerce for her success as the Owner and founder of
Winona Corporation.
Currently, she has devoted the majority of her
volunteer time to numerous volunteer roles that combine social justice
and health. In 2004, for her work on the initial steering committee of
the Washington State Comprehensive Cancer Control team she was
recognized for her leadership and contributions. The CCC Partnership
works together to reduce the cancer incidence, morbidity, and mortality
in Washington State.
In 2005, she received the Lena Hubbard Guild of
Children’s Hospitals award for community service and advocacy in health
issues for the African American community.
She is a member of the Greater Seattle Chapter of
Links, the Alliance for Healthy Communities of Color, Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, The Washington State Association for Black Professionals in
Health Care, and serves as the Washington State representative for the
Intercultural Cancer Council and is a committee member of the Mt. Zion
Health Ministry, the Washington Health Foundations Eliminating
Disparities Committee, the local Comp Cancer team, and the Northwest
Kidney Center’s Kidney Fest Community team.
She is a national grant reviewer and is on the
advocacy committees for the Southwest Oncology Group and several other
national advocacy organizations. She is married to John Hauge and they
have raised 4 of the 10 children from their blended family.
