Emma R. Medicine White Crow, Vice Chair

Emma Medicine
White Crow is the Community Outreach Coordinator for the Komen
Foundation. In this role, Emma develops and implements strategies that
raise breast cancer awareness and bring breast health services to
medically underserved women. Emma previously worked with Kauffman and
Associates (KAI) in Spokane as a Project Manager with the Casey Family
Foundation Indian Child Welfare Project. Emma's previous position at
KAI was as the Project Manager for the statewide effort with the
National Indian Council on Aging Washington State Demonstration Project.
Emma worked with fifteen reservation Tribal participants and an Urban
Indian effort in Seattle. This effort also worked closely with the WA
State Area Agency's on Aging, Veterans Administration, Social Security
Administration, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, WA State's Statewide
Health Insurance Program and other Elder care programs. She also shared
lessons learned from this Demonstration Project with the eighteen
Regional Indian Health Boards across the Nation including Alaska.
Emma served as
Outreach Manager, Leader Engagement for the Washington Health
Foundation, (WHF), in Seattle where she focused on building the ‘Health
Equity 20/20’ program as the next step in making significant and long
term gains in pursuit of the Foundation’s mission of “Improving Health
for the People of Washington” and the goal of making Washington State
the Healthiest State in the Nation.
Also at WHF she
served as the Program Manager for Tribal Health in Rural Washington. She
was able to focus on ensuring better access to health care for tribal
members and communities. A part of this work was to ensure that the
Washington Health Foundation and other partner Foundations worked in a
culturally competent, culturally respectful manner in its relationship
with American Indians and Alaskan Natives. Emma also served as the
Foundation’s Outreach Team Leader for the kids.health.2001 Campaign
in the final two years of a four-year campaign dedicated to helping to
ensure Medicaid Outreach and Enrollment for the children of Washington
State. She worked closely with the American Indian Health Commission,
Washington State Hospital Association, various Federal, State and County
programs in cultural competency and health access.
Emma is a member
of the Race and Equity Core Group at the National Network of
Grantmakers. She has worked with the People of Color in Philanthropy
Affinity group, Grantmakers of Color, National Network of Grantmakers
People of Color Caucus, Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians, Peoples
Institute to Undo Racism Taskforce for Health Equity the Washington
State Association for Healthy Communities of Color, Western States
Center and multiple Philanthropic Organizations
Emma served on the
Loma Linda Medical University American Indian Advisory Board, as well as
a Board member for the Alliance for Multicultural Health, Tacoma. She
also served on the Native directed Northwest Regional Potlatch Fund
Foundation Founding Board as Secretary and was a trainer for the
Technical Assistance Program’s grant writing workshops on Tribal
Reservations. She also served as an advisor for the National Indian
Council on Aging for the Seattle Pilot Project with Outreach and
Enrollment to Benefits and an advisor on Inclusion for Philanthropy
Northwest.
Emma also spent
many years working in education. She mentors/volunteers with Native
high school students. She and her partner have three children, ages
nineteen to twenty-four and reside in Seattle, Washington.
