Lourdes Portillo Salazar

Representing the Commission on Hispanic Affairs
Date Appointed: August 2007

Lourdes Portillo Salazar is Chair for the Washington Commission on Hispanic Affairs. She works for the City of Bellevue Probation Division where, in addition to her duties as Program Coordinator, helped develop the first defendant intake in Spanish, thus helping the Spanish-speaking understand the complexities of Probation and Court requirements and successfully complete Probation.

Lourdes is currently President of Eastside Latino Leadership Forum, an eastside non-profit organization that advocates for Latinos in the eastside on various issues.  Through this organization, she has helped developed the first Hispanic-Latino Heritage Celebration in Bellevue—now an annual event.  She has along with the Bellevue School District, helped develop the Annual Latino Youth Conference, a Latino Parent Leader group (Impulso), and ConeVyt—a Mexican continuing education program through the internet for Mexican parents.

Lourdes currently serves on the Seattle Police Latino Advisory Committee, the Girl Scouts Latina Initiative, and the Overlake School Diversity Committee.  She is a member the Hispanic Legislative Day Committee, as well as incoming Co-President of MUJERES del NW.
